“Do you despise the riches of His goodness, tolerance, and patience, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? But because of your hardness and impenitent heart, you are storing up treasures of wrath against yourself on the day of wrath when the righteous judgment of God will be revealed,” Rom. 2:4-5
God is good, God is love, God is holy and God is righteous. Man’s primary purpose is to walk in fellowship with God and to worship Him. But because man fell into sin, the communion between God and man was broken.
God’s righteousness required that sin be punished, it could not just be ignored. Sin was man’s problem and God did not really need to do anything to help. But, God’s love made Him help man. God sent His Son to take our punishment and then rise from the dead. Through Jesus, man can now be reconciled to God on righteous grounds. Jesus’ death and resurrection for us, reveals God’s goodness and righteousness.
When the good news of what Jesus has done and wants to do for us humans is preached, there are those who despise. Some despise Jesus because they believe He was weak, because He was crucified. They do not understand that Jesus gave His life on the cross of His own free will, He came to die. Some despise God because they hear that God is good and that He wants people to come to Him. They do not understand that it is intended that God’s goodness and love should lead to wanting to be reconciled to God. That one puts one’s faith in Jesus because of His grace and love.
God does not want to threaten or cause people to be reconciled to Him because of fear. It is meant that love should be the driving force. But, if one does not respond to God’s offer of forgiveness through Jesus, then He can not help. And then you have to take the punishment for your sins, in hell. It is not a threat but the logical consequence. And it’s very serious.
Maybe you did not understand this before with the goodness of God and what Jesus did for you through His death and resurrection. Or maybe you have despised God’s goodness before and thought that this with Jesus is not so important.
Turn around and come to Jesus today and let Him reconcile you to God. Then the love of God will be poured out in your heart and you will become a child of God. As you partake of God’s goodness by believing in Jesus, you will become grateful. Why not thank Jesus because He has made it possible for you to receive forgiveness of all your sins. Put your faith in Jesus and confess Him as your Lord today, then you will be saved.
“that if you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved,” Rom. 10:9
You can begin to get to know God. Read more in for example the Gospel of John in the Bible and your faith will grow and Jesus will help you in your daily life.
God bless you.
