“and one goat as a sin offering, to make an atonement for you.” Num. 28:22

In society today, there is quite often talk of scapegoats.  It means people who have done wrong and deserve to be accused and perhaps even judged.  Ever since the beginning when man fell into sin, it has been like in our nature to blame others.  Somehow it is always easier to see the faults of others than their own.

In the Old Testament, animals were sacrificed as sin offering.  That is where the term scapegoat comes from.  In society today, scapegoat is meant as a negative term, but in the Bible it was a temporary solution to bring about atonement.

“For it is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.” Hebr. 10:4

The animal sacrifices in the Old Testament were a role model for the perfect and much better sacrifice to come.  The Son of God, Jesus, came to earth around two thousand years ago to sacrifice Himself for our sins.  Jesus established the new covenant that you can read about in the New Testament in the Bible.  It is a much better covenant than the old covenant that can be read about in the Old Testament in the Bible.

“how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Hebr. 9:14

“and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood,” Rev. 1:5

Jesus’ blood not only covers sin, it removes sin.  The blood that flowed from Jesus’ body on the cross has the power to cleanse from all sins, no sin is too great.  Put your faith and trust in Jesus today and He will cleanse you from all sin and you will be reconciled to God.  Tell Jesus that you want to start a new life with Him.  He wants to lead you on the right paths until one day you come home to God in heaven.

 God bless you.
