“To them God would make known what is the glorious riches of this mystery among the nations. It is Christ in you, the hope of glory,” Col. 1:27
Giving people advice and guidance like Dr. Phil and many others do is good. It can really help people when they look at problems and challenges from a different point of view. But no matter how good the advice is, they are limited. The councils do not provide the power and ability to fulfill them.
Moses and the Ten Commandments, which is the old covenant in the Bible, tell man what to do and not to do. It is good and the result of keeping the Ten Commandments will be good. But Moses and the Ten Commandments do not give strength and ability to keep the law.
The law is good and spiritual, but we humans have sin in us and the law stirs up the desire to sin. When you drive a car and the speed limit is 70, you suddenly want to drive 80, 90 or 100. The law shows God’s standard and man’s inability to live that way. If one is to try to please God on the terms of the law, one must keep the whole law and never break a single commandment, “For whoever shall keep the whole law and yet offend in one point is guilty of breaking the whole law.” James 2:10 If you break one commandment, you are a – lawbreaker.
Being a Christian means that Jesus Christ lives in your heart. And Jesus both transforms the heart and helps and empowers us to live the way He wants us to live. The new covenant that Jesus established is much better than the old one. He even helps us to be able to do more than the law requires, to be able to love even our enemies. Jesus not only helps us to not be unfaithful to one’s wife or husband, but also to truly love one’s wife or husband for life, in happy and tough times. Jesus will help you not only make sure you do not cheat with the tax, but He will make you generous.
Dr. Phil and Moses are all right, but Jesus is much better. If Jesus does not live in your heart, today you can tell Jesus that you want Him to come into your heart. Then you will be a child of God and Jesus will be your best friend. He forgives you for your past and you can start a new life with Jesus. Read more in the Bible, especially in the New Testament, you can start with the Gospel of John. So you can get to know Jesus better and remember that you are not alone if Jesus lives in your heart. He gives help and strength to walk in God’s ways.
“Come to Me (Jesus), all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me. For I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” Matt. 11:28-30
God bless you.
