“So, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may be married to another, to Him who has been raised from the dead, so that we may bear fruit for God.” Rom. 7:4
It is extremely important to understand the difference between the Old and New Testament. Through Moses, the covenant was established based on the law. But through Jesus, the new covenant has been established. God wants you to be established in the revelation of the new covenant. Jesus is not an updated version of Moses who came to introduce a Christian religion.
The new covenant is about a relationship with Jesus. That you let Jesus love you free, whole and restored and then walk on with Jesus. Through Jesus we are dead to sin (Rom. 6:2) and to the law (Rom. 7:4). We now belong to Jesus and when His life flows through us, we bear fruit for God.
The law focuses on you, what to do and not to do. A religious mindset of legality can be all sorts of rules such as reading the Bible, praying and going to church. If you do it based on reluctance and coercion, something is wrong. The law and reading the Bible, praying and going to church are obviously good. But we can not make God love us more by doing so. We cannot atone for our sins through such. We cannot deserve blessings through such. You can not have a relationship with laws and regulations and they always focus on you.
However, when we focus on Jesus, who He is, what He has done and His life within us who believe, then fruit comes through our lives. That fruit is good, it is according to the law and it glorifies God. The law requires but Jesus helps. Count on Jesus in your daily life and He will help you and God will be glorified through your life. Reading the Bible and praying can be something you want to do and long for on a daily basis, precisely because it is about a relationship with Jesus. There is so much to discover in Jesus and what He has done and wants to do. Come to Him, He’s calling you.
God bless you.
