“When He (the Holy Spirit) comes, He will convict the world of sin and of righteousness and of judgment: … of righteousness, because I am going to My Father, and you will see Me no more;” Joh. 16:8, 10

The Holy Spirit convinces those who do not believe, about sin, and the sin is precisely, that they do not believe in Jesus: “of sin, because they do not believe in Me;” John 16:9  Those who believe in Jesus, the Holy Spirit convince “of righteousness, because I am going to My Father, and you will see Me no more;” John 16:10  Notice that in verse 9 Jesus says “they” and in verse 10 “you”.

“But because of Him you are in Christ Jesus, whom God made unto us wisdom, righteousness…”  1 Cor. 1:30

For those of us who believe, Jesus is our righteousness.  The Holy Spirit wants to help us who believe to rest in and take refuge in, the fact that Jesus is our righteousness.  Jesus has gone to the Father and we do not see Him with our physical eyes.  That is why the Holy Spirit convinces us that we are righteous in Jesus.  This is a conviction, partly through the word of God but also through that “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirits that we are the children of God,” Rom. 8:16  The Spirit gives you an inner conviction that you are righteous.

It is especially when you have failed in some way that the Holy Spirit wants to convince you that you are still righteous in Christ.  One’s faith is tested when one sees that one’s actions do not always correspond to one’s convictions.  But do not lose heart.  Jesus is your righteousness and He has patience with you.  Keep trusting that Jesus will make the righteousness of God more and more visible in and through your life.

 God bless you.
