“who has made us able ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” 2 Cor. 3:6
Through Jesus, the new covenant was established. The old covenant, the law, is history. We should not mix these two covenants, but clearly separate them. In 2 Cor. 3 it is spoken of the letter and of the Spirit, the ministry of death and the ministry of the Spirit, the ministry of condemnation and the ministry of righteousness. We need to separate these, not mix them.
In the book of Acts of the Apostles, they preached the gospel of Jesus. Let us do the same today. Jesus did not tell us to preach law and morality, but the good news of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Moralism only deals, or at least tries to because it still does not work so well, with the external. The gospel deals with the internal, the human heart, and morality then comes as a result. When Jesus lives in one’s heart, something really happens. The gospel has sufficient power in itself and does not need the help of the law.
When you believe in Jesus and He gets to live His life through a human being, you live right. With Jesus’ help, you get the ability to even do more than the law and morals require. Jesus helps us to love even those who hate and curse us.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ. For it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” Rom. 1:16
Let go of moralism and let loose the gospel instead. It is God’s power for salvation and transformation. This my friend is radical faith and good news.
God bless you.
